02_upper_emerald_pool.jpg Across from the Zion Lodge, Emerald Pools trailhead provides access to several pools hidden in the cracks and crevices of the Canyon's wall. On a 1.2-mile, fairly level trail, Lower Emerald Pool is the easiest to reach. Middle Emerald Pools will take twice as long to reach and has some long drop-offs. Upper Emerald Pool is on a dead-end spur. Least visited, this Pool offers a peaceful place to relax. Of course, the best time to visit these pools is after a rain but most years each pool has water. Look carefully for prints around any one of the Pools left by Canyon wildlife. You will be surprised at the variety and number. Caution: There could be some slippery spots along the trail so wear safe footwear, don't forget drinking water, and a walking stick would be advised.
