It may not be very impressive with August's low flow rate but come early summer, Steamboat Falls thunders and is a serious challenge to the spawning Steelhead trout. A fish ladder was installed to help the fish in their journey upstream. Classified a Block type waterfall, the riverbed above the falls is level basalt rock with a scattering of little bowls carved out by the rushing springtime flow. Below the falls, the water travels through a narrow mini-canyon that parallels the Steamboat Falls campground's boundary. |
