From Rustic, CO, take State Rt. 14 east 18.6 miles to campground
sign. Turn left into campground.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 5,800 ft.
The campground is composed of three sections stretching along the
Cache La Poudre Wild and Scenic River. The first section has
three walk-in tent sites with no potable water. The second
section is relatively RV friendly with camping sites located
along the river bank under Ponderosa pines. The third section
has a fish hook shape and very short parking aprons. Access to
this section is down a short, steep and winding incline and is a
sharp turn (coming from Rustic) from State Rt. 14. This
campground is the most rustic of those located along Cache La
Poudre River.

In Red Feather Lakes, CO, take Prairie Divide Rd. south 0.7 miles
to Redfeathers Lake Rd./County Rt. 74E. Turn right onto Rt. 74E
and go 0.4 miles to County Rt. 162. Turn left onto Rt. 162
(gravel) and go 2.3 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 163).
Turn right at sign onto Rt. 163 and go 0.4 miles to another
campground sign. Turn left at sign and go 0.3 miles to

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,600 ft.
The campground, located alongside Bellaire Lake, is composed of
two loops among Lodgepole pines. The larger loop offers many
long parking aprons and electric hookups. The smaller loop has
no electric hookups and is tucked into a landscape of boulders
and conifer trees. It also has a wheelchair friendly paved trail
(at site 23) that leads to the lake. The tent pads are equipped
with tie-downs. There is minimal privacy between camping sites.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
TThe elevation is 8,400 ft.
The campground is located on the edge of the Rawah Wilderness.
Once heavily wooded, it is now mostly open. This change in the
campground's character was caused by the pine beetle that killed
or damaged the trees. The campground is tightly configured with
camping sites close together. Most sites have minimal privacy
with some having "V" shaped parking aprons. McIntyre Creek flows
along the western boundary of the campground. It is a good
location for hikers to explore the wilderness.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,650 ft.
The campground is located along the Middle St. Vrain Creek in a
grassy meadow. One small loop is away from the creek in a stand
of conifers. Many camping sites border the creek which can be
heard throughout the campground. Most of the camping sites have
delightful views of the surrounding mountains. The tent-only
sites are all walk-in. Tie-down clasps are provided on each tent
pad.

The campground is located near a former Civilian Conservation
Corps (CCC) and logging camp. Firewood is available from the

The campground is composed of three unnamed loops. Camping sites 1
through 20 are in a densely wooded loop while the remaining sites
are in less dense woods with many overlooking Chambers Lake.
Sites 44 through 51 are walk-in tent sites separate from the
combined sites (tent and RV). Several of these sites also
overlook the lake. All of the camping sites are located among
Lodgepole pines and other conifers. The campground is convenient
to the Neota, Comanche Peak and Rawah Wildernesses. There is
also an amphitheater.

(County Rt. 63E) sign. Turn right onto Pingree Rd. (County Rt.
63E) and go 6.3 miles to campground sign. Turn right into

NOTE: Pingree Rd. is a two-lane dirt and gravel road with some
long steep grades and sharp curves.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,100 ft.

The campground is composed of four sections - Columbine Loop,
Yarrow Loop, Paintbrush (an equestrian section) and a group
camping section (which is not included in the author's research).
The Columbsine Loop includes camping sites with electric hookups
and a walk-in tent section. Yarrow Loop has no electric hookups
but its parking aprons can accommodate any size RV. Paintbrush
also has no electric hookups; each parking apron is a pull-
through and each has a good size corral.
The campground is located midway between Cache La Poudre and
Comanche Peak Wildernesses. The camping sites are tucked into
Ponderosa pine and Aspen with grassy meadows scattered
throughout. The sites are well separated providing good privacy.
This is a very diversified campground with its variety of camping
experiences that include trails for horses, foot and OHVs.

The campground, located on the northern boundary of the Cache La
Poudre Wilderness, straddles Cache La Poudre Wild and Scenic
River with most camping sites alongside the river. The sounds of
rushing water can be heard throughout the campground. Camping
sites 7 through 12 are on a dead-end spur - RVs not permitted.
Most tent sites are walk-ins and tucked in among young Aspen and
a few Ponderosa pines. A few camping sites have a "V" shape
relationship - good for family or small group gathering. Tents
are permitted on hard surfaces only, not on grass. Firewood is
available from the host for a fee.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,600 ft.
The campground is composed of several loops meandering along a
mountainside. Most camping sites are nestled among a nice
mixture of conifers and Aspen trees. Camping sites 1 through 21,
with a narrow interior road, are well suited for tents. Sites 22
through 46, located mostly in Lodgepole pines, are better for
RVs. The understory is grass and rock. Firewood is available
from the host for a fee.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 10,030 ft.
The campground, located on the edge of the Comanche Peak
Wilderness, is a single loop in a nice mixture of Lodgepole pine,
Douglas fir and a few other conifers. Some sites include a bench
along with the usual picnic table and fire ring/grille. The
campground is convenient to the Neota Wilderness, Rocky Mountain
National Park for hiking and Long Draw Reservoir for fishing (0.9
miles from campground). Although densely wooded, sites are close
together providing minimal privacy. The campground is very
picturesque and is an excellent location for wildlife viewing -
moose, Elk and deer.

From Estes Park, CO, take State Rt. 7 south 6.8 miles to the
Meeker Park Picnic Area and Roosevelt National Forest signs. At
the Roosevelt National Forest sign, turn right into the
campground.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,440 ft.
The campground, adjacent to State Rt. 7 and convenient to the
Wild Basin area of the Rocky Mountain National Park, is located
in a thinned stand of conifers. The campground serves primarily
as overflow to nearby campgrounds with informal camping sites
scattered throughout. Camping sites 15 and above are on dead-end
spurs with no turn-around. With the exception of pop-up tents,
RVs are not recommend in these higher numbered sites. The
campground is popular for hikers and climbers.
Visit the Saint Malo Retreat where there is a very picturesque
stone church - a short distance north on Rt. 7. The popular town
of Estes Park is also convenient to the campground.

Comanche loops have no electric hookups and stretch out along the

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 6,400 ft.
The campground, located just north of the Cache La Poudre
Wilderness, is composed of two sections along the Cache La Poudre
Wild and Scenic River. Each section has its own entrance, 0.1
miles apart. The first section is a grassy open meadow and very
RV friendly with camping sites along the river's bank. The
second section is for walk-in tent campers only with camping
sites tucked in among Ponderosa pines and scattered small
boulders. This section enjoys a very attractive location. Tents
must be placed on hard surfaces only, not grass. The tent pads
include tie-downs. The river can be heard throughout the
campground.
The campground is located just west of the geological feature
called the "Narrows" - a narrow cleft where the river has cut
through rock walls.

spruce and Douglas fir and provides access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness.

sign. Turn right into campground.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 7,800 ft.
The campground, located alongside State Rt. 14, is a figure 8
configuration. Although the campground is dotted with juniper,
Aspen and sage, all camping sites are in the open. The Sleeping
Elephant rock formation and Cache La Poudre Wild and Scenic River
are directly across the campground and State Rt. 14. The rock
formation really does look like a sleeping elephant. The
understory is grass and the river can be heard throughout the
campground.

From Rustic, CO take State Rt. 14 east 5.1 miles to Pingree Park
(County Rt. 63E) sign. Turn right onto Pingree Rd. (County Rt.
63E) and go 12.1 miles to an intersection (County Rt. 44H).
Continue straight onto Rt. 44H and go 3.6 miles to campground
sign (Forest Rt. 145). Turn right onto Rt. 145 (narrow and dirt)
into campground.
NOTE: Pingree Rd. is a two-lane dirt and gravel road with some
long steep grades and sharp curves.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,600 ft.
The campground, tightly configured stretches out along the South
Fork of the Poudre River among Lodgepole pines and other
conifers. It has a definite wilderness feel and is convenient
for hikes into the Comanche Peak Wilderness and Rocky Mountain
National Park. The campground is pack it in, pack it out.

103. Turn right onto Rt. 103 (dirt) and go 6.5 miles to
campground sign. Turn left into campground.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,600 ft.
The campground, located on the edge of the Rawah Wilderness,
stretches alongside the Laramie River in a thick stand of
Lodgepole pines. The sites are close together with some adjacent
to or overlooking the river. The campground is a good location
for hikers to explore the wilderness. Moose are frequent
visitors to the campground.
This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

sign into campground.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,200 ft.
The campground, located adjacent to West Lake, is comprised of
Ponderosa pine, lodgepole and spruce trees. Some camp sites
overlook the lake and many have views of the mountain peaks in
the Rocky Mountain National Park. There is good separation
between sites providing some privacy. All tent sites are walk-
ins and private. The Rocky Mountain National Park is a good day
trip from the campground.
This is bear country; practice safe food storage technique.
