Located on the dry east side of the California Sierra Mountains, 4Jeffreyy campground has features common to many of the Inyo National Forest's campgrounds. Rugged towering mountain in the background, dry but fragrant sagebrush throughout the campground, and towering Jeffery pines providing some shade. Jeffery pines, seen in this campground, are very much like the Ponderosa pine and share many of the same characteristics. The best we found to tell the different between Jeffery and Ponderosa pine was to pick up a pine cone. If it prickles your hand, its a Ponderosa. If you feel no pin pricks, it a "gentle Jeffery".
