DIRECTIONS:
In Foresthill, CA, at intersection of Forest Hill Rd. and
Mosquito Ridge Rd. (Forest Rt. 96), take Rt. 96 east 35.6 to a
"T" intersection.  Turn left, staying on Rt. 96, and go 6 miles
to campground on right.

NOTE: Forest Rt. 96 is narrow two-lane in sections and has more
curves than a bucket of worms.  Last 0.7 miles are gravel.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 5,300 ft.

The campground has two loops along the Middle Fork of American
River.  Only a few camp sites have a view or direct access to
river.  The Middle Fork is for fly fishing anglers.  Several
parking aprons have an overgrown unkept appearance.  Lodgepole
pine provide some shade.  Consider a day trip to Big Trees
Interpretive Trail.

This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

Turn left onto Forest Rt. 10 and go 3.6 miles to an intersection and Big Resvr/Morning Star sign. Continue straight onto Forest Rt. 24 and go 2.1 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 4,000 ft. The campground, with one loop of combined camp sites and a cluster of tent-only sites, is at the entrance of Morning Star Resort. Campers share facilities with resort which include access to Morning Star Lake, showers, RV waste station, swimming beach, and more. Douglas fir and cedar provide ample shade. Morning Star Lake offers good fishing and pleasant family non- motorized boating opportunities. Some camp sites have view of lake. Firewood is available for a fee. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. At end of exit ramp, turn left (to Boca/Stampede) and go 1.1 miles to Boca Dam sign. Turn left onto Forest Rt. 73 and go 0.9 miles to campground on right. NOTE: 6/42/2020: Due to Boca Dam closure for 2020 take this alternative route - In Truckee, CA, take US Rt. 89 north approximately 5 miles to Hobart Mills Road (paved) on the right. Go approximately .75 miles to County Road 886 on the right (east). From this point on you will be traveling on dirt roads until near the campground. Continue on Road 886/890 for approximately 5 miles. Road is paved again when you get to Boca Boat Ramp which is on the left. Continue .25 miles to campground on the left. (Directions provided by Truckee Ranger District Office.) GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,700 ft. The campground, located along the south bank if the Boca Reservoir, has two spurs on ridges overlooking the reservoir. Sagebrush surrounds the campground with a few Jeffrey pine providing some shade, but it is mostly in the open. The campground has a developed dispersed feel. Some of the tent sites are walk-in on a point of land jutting into the reservoir. There is a protected eagle habitat at west end of Boca Reservoir. At end of exit ramp, turn left (to Boca/Stampede) and go 3.4 miles to campground on left. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,600 ft. The campground, located on the eastern shore of Boca Reservoir where the reservoir meets Little Truckee River, has two sections with scattered camp sites. This campground is all dirt and sun with views of the reservoir, river and distant ski runs. Some camp sites are at water's edge and there are "stakes for mooring boats. Camp sites appear to be "floating" and not specific to one location. This campground is at the low end of developed. At end of exit ramp, turn left (to Boca/Stampede) and go 3.4 miles to campground directional sign. Turn right after sign onto Forest Rt. 72 (gravel) and go 0.9 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,800 ft. The campground has two sections. One section, located next to a group area, has two camp sites, which are two "rough" pull- throughs. The second section meanders up an incline past Boca Spring (there really is one) through a stand of Jeffrey pine. The camp sites in this section are scattered about and are poorly defined - not RV friendly. A pretty meadow, fed by Boca Spring, parallels the campground. Horses are permitted in campground. A watering trough is provided next to camp site #1 and is the only facility for horses in campground. This campground is on the very low end of developed. Turn left at sign onto County Rt. 490 and immediately left into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,300 ft. The camp sites are scattered across a dirt area with limited shade provided by some oak and pine. Camp sites 4 through 7 are off a rocky, badly eroded road and are recommended for tents only. It does not have appearance of a developed campground. Limited groceries and a restaurant are available at nearby Indian Valley Outpost. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,300 ft. The campground stretches along the North Yuba River with most camp sites away from the river's shore and up against State Rt. 49. Traffic noise from Rt. 49 is heard throughout campground. The campground is best suited for tent campers and does not have appearance of a developed campground. The camp sites are shaded by cedar, Ponderosa pine and oak trees. There is little privacy between camp sites. Limited groceries and restaurant are available at nearby Indian Valley Outpost. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,900 ft. The campground has two overlapping loops. Some camp sites overlook Chapman Creek, while other beside a small meadow. A pleasant mix of fir and Lodgepole pine provide shade but little privacy. Adjacent to State Rt. 49, the campground is a popular overnight location with longer camp sites on the inside loop. Gas, limited groceries, and a cook's night out (breakfast and lunch too) are available at Bassetts Station (3 miles west on State Rt. 49) - try the milkshakes and pies. All camp sites have stone fire rings and some have stone ovens. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. Turn right at sign and go 0.1 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,700 ft. The campground stretches out on a flat between State Rt. 89 and Cold Creek. Half the camp sites are tucked in under Ponderosa pine and White fir, while the other half is in the creek's riparian environment of cottonwood, willow, and Aspen trees and a meadow. The tent sites are walk-ins. Privacy between camp sites is fair and some have brick ovens. Expect some traffic noise from Rt. 89. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,600 ft. The campground reaches from the banks of Cottonwood Creek across a stand of conifers. Jeffrey pine along with Red and White fir provide shade. Easy on, easy off State Rt. 89 makes this a good overnight stop but the pleasantly tranquil feel could result in a longer stay. Privacy is good but traffic noise from Rt. 89 is noticeable. The campground, on the northeastern shore of French Meadows Reservoir, has two sections - one for reservations and the other first come, first serve. A pleasant mixture of conifer trees provide ample shade to most camp sites. While both sections have camp sites with views of the reservoir, the first come, first serve section has more plus less challenging access to the water. It is also possible to more boats at some camp sites. It is a long drive to this attractive campground but worth the effort. Consider a day trip to Big Trees Interpretive Trail. Although the east section's loops are closest to the reservoir, some camp sites in the west section have a limited view of the water. The reservoir is used for irrigation and will lower as the season progresses. Boats can be moored along the shoreline. Besides the large boat ramp parking, extra parking is available within each section. About 20 percent of the camp sites are side-by-side - great for family and a large group of friends. The upper section (sites 11 through 16) is also a loop but small and tight and best for tents. Oak and pines, along with cedar and fir, provide ample shade to this section. (Forest Rt. 96), take Forest Hill Rd. east 27.7 miles to campground. NOTE: Last 10 miles has some narrow two-lane stretches. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 6,700 ft. This picturesque campground has two sections - family camp sites to the left of campground's entrance and equestrian to the right. The family section is one loop and a spur in a dense grove of fir trees. The equestrian section stretches up an incline and has campground's only pull-through. Camp sites in this section, although tucked in among large fir trees, are more open and large to accommodate portable corrals. No equestrian facilities are provided. Between the two sections is a pretty little meadow used by Native American Indians for hundreds of years. Then, along came the white man who built a Ranger District Office in 1911 (now uninhabited). The buildings are being preserved, but will soon need help - tread softly. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. The Yuba River can be heard throughout the campground. Mature fir trees provide shade while a pleasant mixture of shrubs provide a barrier to the highway. Although the campground name implies it is for groups only, both groups and individuals/families are welcome. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 6,200 ft. The campground, located between State Rt. 89 and Little Truckee River, has two loops. The loop on the left side has shorter parking aprons, some close to Rt. 89. The loop on the right side has parking aprons can accommodate any size RV. This loop also has a spur with camp sites close to Little Truckee River. Pine trees provide shade to the left loop but little to the camp sites in the right loop. The campground provides easy on/off access with Rt. 89 and is a good location for overnight campers. There is traffic noise from Rt. 89 and no privacy between camp sites. The overstory is comprised of mature cedar, pine, and Douglas fir providing ample shade for all camp sites. Old, functional rock ovens at many sites. Traffic noise from Rt. 20 is noticeable. NOTE: Last 0.8 miles of Wild Plum Dr. is gravel. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 3,900 ft. The campground is has three loops. The two small lower loops in front of campground are more RV friendly than the upper loop. Camp sites in the lower loops have paved aprons and interior roads. The upper loop is less developed with a gravel interior road and unpaved aprons. Some camp sites in all three loops overlook Haypress Creek. Rocks, possibly from earlier gold dredging efforts, are all over the campground making pitching tents a challenge at some sites. A pleasant mixture of hardwoods and conifers provide ample shade to most camp sites. Consider day trips to Sierra City, Downieville, and Kentucky Mine Museum. Bear-proof food containers are found in upper loop only. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. The campground, one of seven in the Jackson Meadow Recreation Area, is located near the south end of Jackson Meadow Reservoir in a stand of mixed fir and some pine. The campground has two loops and a spur. Camp sites at the far end have longer parking aprons; shade is better than the other loop and spur. Farthest from everything but boat ramp, the campground offers a good location for boaters and anglers. There is no extra parking for boat trailers except at the boat ramp. None of the camp sites have a view of lake. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. It is nestled in a thick stand of magnificent old lichen-wrapped firs of all sizes. A beautiful, scenic campground with some under- maintained camp sites, it doesn't have hiking or fishing, just a peaceful, aromatic setting, and wonderful trees. It is excellent for an overnight stay or a few days of solitude and reflection. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
