Close up of Pitcher plant. Some carnivorous plants have a prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with a liquid known as a "pitfall trap." This species had little "hairs" around the opening, above the "pitfall trap." Insects may be attracted by color and/or scent, but once on the plant, the bug falls in and it drowns. The body is gradually dissolved, providing nutrients for the plant. | |
