CAMPGROUND NAME: Indian-Celina Lakes

VISIT DATE: 09/25/1996

UPDATE DATE: 1/24/2024

STATE: Indiana

REGION: Eastern

RANGER DISTRICT: Tell City

NEAREST CITY/TOWN: St. Croix

RESERVATIONS: 1-877-444-6777 or make on-line reservation

DIRECTIONS:
In St. Croix, IN, at the intersection of State Route 37 and
Interstate 64, take State Rt. 37 south 1.9 miles to Recreation
Area - Indian - Celina Lake sign. Turn right into campground.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 800 ft.

The only campground in the Indian-Celina Recreation Area is
composed of two loops - North Face and South Slope. All sites on
the South Slope have electric hookups, while the North Face is
mostly non-electric. Both loops are similar with a modern
bathhouse that have hot showers and flush toilets, vault toilets,
and heavily wooded campsites comprised of mixed hardwoods and pine.
Both Celina and Indian Lakes are in the recreation area but more
than a mile drive from the campground. South Slope Loop with longer
parking aprons and a more manicured appearance is more RV-friendly
than North Face Loop. The more tent-friendly North Face Loop is
hillier, has denser vegetation, and campsites 11, 12, and 13 are
walk-in.

An interesting feature of the Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area is
the Jacob Rickenbaugh House. This two-story structure was built out of
sandstone blocks cut from a nearby outcrop. Although the Rickenbaugh
family had resided in the area since 1822, this massive house wasn't
built until 1874. The Rickenbaugh House served as the Celina Poat
Office from 1880 until 1951.
