From Laramie, WY, take State Rt. 130 west 21.7 miles to State Rt.
11.  Turn left onto Rt. 11 and go 13 miles to Albany, WY.  From
Albany, take Forest Rt. 500 (dirt) for 2.8 miles to Keystone sign
(Forest Rt. 542) at "Y" intersection.  Bear left onto Rt. 542 and
go 5.8 miles to another "Y" intersection.  Bear left toward Fox
Park and go 1.3 miles to campground sign.  At sign, turn right,
crossing single lane bridge, and go 0.8 miles to campground.

NOTE: Forest Rt. 542 has narrow, single-lane and rough portions.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,400 ft.

This is a rustic little campground near Douglas Creek with widely
spaced sites, which provide some privacy.  Some sites are nestled
among a dense stand of Lodgepole pines while other sites are open
and overlook the creek.

Turn left at sign onto Rt. 550 and go 0.1 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign and go 0.2 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,800 ft. The campground is convenient to State Rt. 70 and is located near the site of the old Bottle Creek Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp. The sites are well shaded by a mixture of conifers and a few Aspen. The view from the Memorial Overlook in the campground is spectacular. (Forest Rt. 100). Turn left onto Rt. 100 (dirt) and go 19.8 miles to Bow River campground sign. Turn right into campground. NOTE: Forest Rt. 100 is intermittently a narrow two-lane or single-lane (with turnouts) road. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,340 ft. The campground is located next to Bow River in a heavily wooded forest of Lodgepole and Spruce pines and some young Aspen. The sites are well separated with heavy understory and middlestory which provides privacy. The campground is quiet and tranquil. Visit the Brush Creek Information Center just east of North Brush Creek Rd. on State Rt. 130. The information center was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1937 and 1941. Formerly, it was the Brush Creek Ranger Station and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places. (Forest Rt. 317). Turn right onto Rt. 317 and go 1.9 miles to campground. NOTE: Forest Rt. 317 is a rough paved road that becomes dirt after 1.6 miles. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 10,200 ft. The campground is located on Brooklyn Lake. Every site has a view of the lake ranging from great to spectacular. The lake appears to be a nice canoeing lake in the shadow of the snow capped Browns Peak. CAMPGROUND NAME: Deep Creek VISIT DATE: 09/14/1998 UPDATE DATE: 4/4/2018 STATE: Wyoming REGION: Rocky Mountain RANGER DISTRICT: Brush Creek-Hayden NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Saratoga RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: From Saratoga, WY, take State Rt. 130 east 20.1 miles to North Brush Creek Rd. (Forest Rt. 100). Turn left onto Rt. 100 (dirt) and go 20 miles to "Y" intersection (Forest Rt. 101). Bear right onto Rt. 101 (dirt) and go 9.8 miles to campground on the left. NOTE: Forest Rts. 100 and 101 are intermittent narrow two-lane or single-lane (with turnouts). GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation 9,760 ft. The campground is pack it in, pack it out and located in a conifer forest with a pretty meadow and Deep Creek on one side. It is rustic with good separation between sites providing good privacy. Some sites overlook the meadow providing wildlife viewing opportunities. Visit the Brush Creek Information Center just east of North Brush Creek Rd. on State Rt. 130. The information center was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1937 and 1941. Formerly, it was the Brush Creek Ranger Station and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places. Bear left onto County Rt. 5/Esterbrook Rd. (dirt) and go 10.8 miles to the Esterbrook Work Center at a "Y" intersection (Forest Rt. 633). Continue straight onto Rt. 633 and go 0.2 miles through a small community to another "Y" intersection. Bear left, staying on Rt. 633, and go 3 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 6,100 ft. The campground winds up a Ponderosa-pine covered mountain side. The sites are spacious and well seperated. The Esterbrook Lodge is nearby for a cook's night out. The understory is grass and pine needle. CAMPGROUND NAME: French Creek VISIT DATE: 09/11/1998 UPDATE DATE: 4/4/2018 STATE: Wyoming REGION: Rocky Mountain RANGER DISTRICT: Brush Creek-Hayden NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Centennial RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: From Centennial, WY, take State Rt. 130 west 25.3 miles to Forest Rt. 227 sign. Turn left onto Rt. 227 (dirt) and go 4.1 miles to an intersection (Forest Rts. 225 and 227). Continue straight on Forest Rt. 225 and go 6.4 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 206). Turn right onto Rt. 206 and go 3.7 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. NOTE: The campground can also be accessed from Saratoga, WY by driving east on State Rt. 130. Another route off State Rt. 130 (from either Saratoga or Centennial), is taking Forest Rt. 225. This route is recommended for RVs. While Forest Rt. 227 is steep and rocky in places, Forest Rt. 225 is level and well graded. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,000 ft. This is a secluded little campground, far from most anything. French Creek can be heard throughout the campground. Most sites are shaded by Aspen trees and wild rose bushes, which provide privacy between most sites. This is a nice, attractive campground that is well worth the drive. Not all of the sites have tent pads. The campground is a loop configuration shaped like a tear drop. This shape makes it difficult for most RVs to make a second pass; go out of the campground and come back in. The campground is pack it in, pack it out. Bear left onto County Rt. 5/Esterbrook Rd. (dirt) and go 10.8 miles to the Esterbrook Work Center at a "Y" intersection. Bear right, staying on County Rt. 5, and go 15.3 miles to still another intersection (Forest Rt. 671/Bear Creek Rd.). Bear left onto Forest Rt. 671/Bear Creek Rd. (steep with single-lane sections) and go 2.7 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign and go 1 mile to campground. NOTE: County Rt. 5 becomes rather rough and rocky. At 3.6 miles on Rt. 5, an unmarked "Y" intersection appears. Bearing either left or right takes the driver to the same place for continueing on Rt. 5. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 7,400 ft. The campground is located above Friend Creek at the base of Laramie and Friend Peaks. Laramie Peak, at 10,200 ft., is the highest peak in the Laramie Range and was a landmark for pioneers using the Morman and Oregon Trails. The campground is delightful for tents and small RVs (pop-up and slide-in styles). There are several nice rock climbing formations nearby. Sites are fairly close together and shaded by firs and pines. The campground is a good location for wildlife viewing - wild turkey and Bighorn sheep. Turn left onto Rt. 550 (gravel) and go 16.2 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 496). Continue straight through intersection onto Rt. 496 and go 1.5 miles to another campground sign (Forest Rt. 4961E). Turn right onto Rt. 4961E and go 0.7 miles to a camping sign. Turn right, crossing a dam, and go 0.1 to campground. NOTE: Expect intermittent washboard surfaces on both Forest Rts. 550 and 496. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,400 ft. The campground, formerly Lakeview campground, is located on the Lodgepole pine-covered knoll of the southeastern shore of the Hog Park Reservoir. Some sites overlook the reservoir and have direct access to the water. Hog Park Reservoir is a water source for Cheyenne, WY. It is about mid-way between Huston Park and Encampment River Wilderness. CAMPGROUND NAME: Jack Creek VISIT DATE: 09/16/1998 UPDATE DATE: 4/4/2018 STATE: Wyoming REGION: Rocky Mountain RANGER DISTRICT: Brush Creek-Hayden NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Encampment RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: From Encampment, WY, take State Rt. 70 west 24 miles to Deep Creek Rd. (Forest Rt. 801) sign. Turn right onto Rt. 801 (also known as County Rt. 801 - gravel) and go 7.4 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 830). Turn right onto Rt. 830 (gravel) and go 13.7 miles to stop sign (Forest Rt. 452). Turn left onto Rt. 452 and go 2 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground. Forest Rt. 830 is closed from May 15 through June 15 for the Elk calving season. NOTE: An alternative route is taking Forest Rt. 443 (6.3 miles west from Encampment off State Rt. 70) 26 miles on a single-lane "improved dirt road." This route is not recommended for low-clearance vehicles or RVs. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,500 ft. The campground is is a single loop with one side running parallel to Jack Creek. The entrance to the campground is through a large meadow while the sites are tucked in among mature, widely spaced Lodgepole pines. Although the drive to the campground is long, it is very scenic with many delightful vistas of surrounding lowlands. Nearby is the Jack Creek Ranger Station. It is on the Register of National Historic Places and was built during 1933 and 1934. Visit the Ranger Station and glimpse into the past of the life of a Forest Ranger. The campground is comprised of a single tear-drop loop, making a second pass for RVs difficult. Some sites are nestled in a dense grove of Aspen, fir and spruce. Others are in a grassy meadow. The interior road is narrow and rough in places. The campground is convenient to a network of challenging mountain bike trails. (Exit 329). Take Exit 329 to stop sign and turn left onto Vedauwoo Rd. and go 1.2 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign and go 0.3 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 8,200 ft. The campground is composed of two loops, winding around the boulders, slabs and cliffs of the Vedauwoo rock formation which comprises 10 square miles of weathered Sherman granite. The vegetation is a variety of Limber pine, Engleman spruce, Douglas fir and Aspen. The general area was once used as a hideout for outlaws and Native Americans thought playful spirits piled up the boulders. Some of the tent sites are so secluded, one might feel the "outlaw's spirit." This is a well designed, attractive campground with the sites well separated and providing privacy. It seems the Forest Service went out of its way to design the campground in a manner that is in keeping with the surrounding area. All the tent sites are walk-ins. The campground is an excellent location for rock climbing and hiking.
