The campground is located next to Big Creek Reservoir with some
sites overlooking the reservoir. Englemann spruce provide shade

studded open meadow areas.

This campground is one of the few in Grand Mesa National Forest
not located on a lake. Most of the sites are nestled in a thick
grove of mature spruce. A few sites have a panoramic vista of
the Grand Valley and several of the lakes below. The 144-acre
Island Lake is located 0.1 miles east of the campground on Forest
Rt. 116. Firewood is available for a fee.

The elevation is 9,800 ft.
The campground is located between Jumbo and Sunset Lakes among
mature spruce and Aspen trees. The hilly terrain provides
privacy for closely spaced sites and a challenge to drivers.
Most sites have views of the lakes and are within easy walking
distance. The nearby Mesa Lakes Ranger Station was built by the
Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941 and provides information to
campers. There are lodges close by that provide for a cook's
night out.
