RETURN OF THE BUZZARDS!

They are not the prettiest birds in the Southeast Arizona skies but they might be the most welcomed. To the citizens of Bisbee, March 15th is the day we celebrate the return of the Turkey Vultures (a.k.a. buzzards) and the arrival of Spring!

They left months ago. Long before the freezing temperatures established residence. And have spent the time somewhere south of the border. Now they’ll take up residence in the giant cottonwood trees along Mule Creek. Spending the nights roosting in the highest branches. When the sun rises above the rim of the Mule Mountains and it rays warm the air, the buzzards will stretch they wings and ride the warm air currents up and up and up and out of the Old Bisbee, only now they’ll return at sunset.
