Prescription for improved health – Walk
This past winter was not much fun for me. Heck, last summer and fall weren’t all that great either. My life seemed to be deep in the pits. Than I was given the suggestion – WALK! Don’t think. Just walk and let Mother Nature do her magic.
I have always liked to walk. It was my time to think, do my problem-solving. The dogs were a distraction but we now have an arrangement. They walk nicely with me to the turn-around point where off come the leashes and they get to play for awhile. When the leashes go back on they know its time to go home where breakfast is waiting.
Yes, learning to walk without thinking but observing was a challenge but the rewards have been worth the effort. Even with the limited alternative paths, it is working for me. Maybe it will help brighten your day, too.
Here are some tips I found useful:
1. Stand tall, shoulders back, chin up, tummy in.
2. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses – no frowning!
3. No I-pod or other distraction, even a human walking partner.
4. Use all your senses to observe the surroundings.
5. Breath deeply and remember it is quality, not quantity, that counts.
