Getting to Sleep when Camping
A good night’s sleep is important. I haven’t found any studies to prove it but I am a mom and have noticed a few things like:
- camping, hiking, swimming, and all those out-of-doors activities;
- a tummy full of good campfire prepared food; and,
- fresh, and breathing fresh air breathed during camping helps everyone sleep better.
On the other side of this coin are the possibilities children, and sometimes adults, new to camping find the experience uncomfortable and a good night of sleep hard to achieve. Here are some ideas that should help:
Along with a warm puppy to cuddle with, here are some other tips:
- Bring along the familiar like a pillow, blanket, sleep toy, or as in Fred case, Ralf;
- Maintain the routine, this includes bedtime stories, teeth brushing, prayers, goodnight kisses, whatever;
- Get your tent or RV as dark as possible before attempting to fall asleep;
- Do not wait until over-tired. There is so much to do, see, and enjoy but remember tomorrow is another day, and;
- Sleepware should be comfort – thick enough for cool temperatures or light enough for warmer temperatures – but not thick and bulky.
