Layers upon layers of sand formed into layer upon layer of sandstone. Rain water falls on the rock, seeps into cracks, soaking the sandstone. As the rain water flows through the rock, it carries away particals of sandstone, erroding the rock and forming caves and ledges. These spaces offer wonderful places to build safe and secure living quarters and storage areas.
