One of our daytrips was exploring the Nebraska National Forest along scenic Forest Route 203. Once away from the Scott Lookout, trees were few and far between. The landscape was rolling, grass-covered prairie. The yellow sunflowers nodded a cheery greeting as we drove by. The whole area is sectioned into fence-enclosed grids that provide grazing for cattle. Bright colored birds darted up and down and through the waving grass. The only sounds out here were bird songs and a whisper of wind. What a beautiful and lonesome place.
