Stewart Canyon trail crosses Cascade River and turns north, up the steep walled canyon. The sound of thunderous rapids becomes ever louder further up the canyon. The trail up the canyon is "wilder", more rugged with vegetation growing closer to the trail. It is like entering another world. It helped me appreciate earlier explorers to the area all the more.
