A bridge across a glacier-melt fed stream. The Path of Glacier trail follows this stream from the glacier's melt pond to the trailhead's parking area. Mount Edith Cavell, in the background, was named for a WWI nurse martyred by the Germans. Edith was captured by the Germans while tending the wounded. She refused to leave her charges and continued to tend the soldiers from both sides while helping allied troops escape. She was arrested for espionage and hung. Smaller glaciers can be seen clinging to the side of Mount Edith Cavell but the larger Cavell Glacier and delicate Angel Glacier aren't visible yet. There is another trail leading to Cavell Meadows, featuring an alpine meadow, but there was too much snow for us to explore it. |
