Cascade Garden, across the Bow River, at the end or start of Banff Avenue in Banff, is such a beautiful place. Designed in 1935 by Harold Beckett as part of the 1930s federal sponsored work relief program, today's Cascade Garden is scaled down from the original concept. That concept was to have waterfalls cascading into pools lined with rock from the surrounding mountains. Each pool would, in turn, reflect a geological stage in the history of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Well, the Gardens may not be as grand as the original concept envisioned but it is a wonderful place for both the eye and spirit. |
