Fletcher View campground, Toiyabe NF (NV)
If I said, “Let’s go camping near Las Vegas, NV” would you in-vision this? Probably not. Most of us think Nevada is all dry, dusty, flat desert but this isn’t always the case. There are some amazing lush riparian areas like the one in this photograph. The campground is call Fletcher View and it is one of six campgrounds in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area in the Toiyabe National Forest. A small campground, it has only 11 campsite, all with electric hook-ups it is often full by the weekend year round. Fletcher View’s campsites stretch up Kyle Canyon along a wash and State Rt. 157. A mixture of Ponderosa pine, Mountain mahogany, and Gamble oak provide ample shade. This campground is a good base camp for exploring Spring Mountains NRA’s numerous attractions including Mount Charleston and Cathedral Rock trail. More about such later.
Went to Las Vegas on a convention trip a few years ago, but spent most of my time skiing and hiking Mt Charleston.
Beautiful place.
And very few know it is there.
