Camping Family’s First Aid Kit
There are first-aid kits commercially available in drug stores and outdoor equipment shops. These kits tend to be pricey and I’m never sure if it has all I might need in an emergency. The following is condensed from all my readings over the years and provides what I think are must first-aid kit items:
- Sunscreen – Since Fred is a red-head, sunscreen is very important to us. Based on our experiences, a sunburn can ruin a vacation faster than a day of bad weather. Remember to apply throughout the day.
- Aloe vera – Aloe cools burns from the sun or other heat sources and other skin inflammation.
- Pain relievers – What works for you at home should be brought. But don’t forget all do better when taken along with plenty of water.
- Antiseptic – Antiseptic solution, such as hydrogen peroxide, for cleaning a wound and an antiseptic cream for preventing infection.
- Bandages – Both adhesive and wrap-around style bandages, of assorted sizes and shape, to cover such things as blister, keep dirt out cuts and scraps, and prevent wounds.
- Tape – Surgical tape works well, but duct tape is effective in keeping gauze bandage in place.
- Personal Information – To often overlooked, don’t forget your name, address, allergies, current medications (include over-the-counter drugs), and emergency contact numbers. Such could be the most important items in your first aid kit.
