The Kern River flows into Lake Isabella which is located in the foothills east of Bakersfield. A man-made lake, some 11,000 acres in size when full, Lake Isabella has 38 miles of shoreline. Tilllie Creek campground is one of the campgrounds that reaches along the Lake's shoreline with mistletoe draped trees offering limited shade.
