Fire is a natural part of a national forest's life-cycle but it is hard to see the destruction. This picture was taken a couple of years after the Inyo National Forest's fierce Manter Fire. Wildflowers are the first sign of recovery. By now there should be a thick stand of knee high pines growing and more animals returning to establish their homes among the charred remnants of the old forest.
