No 3 Heisler - Riding behind the wood burning Heisler No 3 is truly a trip back into time. The very young will see a little of Thomas the Tank Engine in the Heisler's can-do attitude and puffs of black smoke coming from his smoke stack. The not-so-young will recall Saturday matinee Westerns with train robbers and speeding locomotives. Purchased by the SVRR in 1971, this Heisler geared locomotive was "resting" in a shed at Cascade, Idaho. Since its return to the SVR, visitors will see the old No 3 only when the danger of fires is relatively low - yes, those are hot cinders coming from its smoke stack. Heisler No 3 is almost as popular as the red Caboose at the rear of the train. While you can't ride inside the Heisler, ask if your children can experience a trip in the Caboose. | |
