Can generators be used in National forest campgrounds. If so what are the rules. I'm sure there are some.

Generally, yes, generators can be used. Different campgrounds may have different rules, but *usually* there are generator hours...perhaps something like 7AM to 8PM. You just need to read the rules posted at the campground.
Hopefully, you'll be using a quiet generator...something like a Honda or Yamaha inverter generator...and not one of those extremely loud contractor generators!

I agree , I found last year most people where great , everyone ran them at about the same time in the morning and it was done with. The invertors are the way to go. I purchased a Kippor and we are more than happy with it. Good Luck

As several others have stated, the rules are usually simple and are usually posted, but I think the most important rule on this is the "Golden Rule".
Please be aware of your neighbors and the effect your generator might have on them.

I have had NFS locations where the ranger had to OK my generator due to fire danger. My Honda 2000, and most new camping generators, have the spark arresters they are looking for.
I rarely use it since getting solar, but sure appreciate it when folks just run them late morning or at early dinner if needed. Had one last year that ran it for hours each evening to watch movies. SCREAM! Bill

There is one main rule throughout - generators cannot be run during quiet hours, usually 10PM through 6 or 7AM. However, as discussed in this BB, there are variations some of which specifically limit running generators during certain hours. The rules are most always posted on the fee board located in each campground.
