To create ForestCamping.com, it took 17 years for the authors (Suzi and Fred) to visit all the national forests (NF) and grasslands (NG). Now we are going back to re-research the campgrounds (CG) to include improving the pictures. However, there is no way we can get back to all of them, especially to keep dynamic data current, e.g. fees. This is where you, the camper, can help.
We transmit a fax to each of the Forest Service ranger district offices (RD - about 500) during January/February of each year. In it, we display the known fee, season and reservation status for each CG under its jurisdiction. We provide space for the RD to update the three data fields and any additional info. they want to provide, e.g. added potable water. We get a 60 to 70 percent response, nationally. There are two other resources where we could get updates - official NF/NG websites and recreation.gov. The former is notoriously out of date and the latter covers way less than 50% of the Forest Service campground inventory.
So, we are hoping that when you all go out fun camping, that you'll make note of any discrepancies/additions in and to our data and post them to the Update forum below. We and thousands of campers will be most appreciative.

On the other hand, to go camping at a gazillion places full time and to be able to write it all off . . . . A rotten, thankless job, and Fred and Suzi get to do it! Many, many thanks for all your work on this site. It is an invaluable asset to an addicted camper such as meself. Now, if this weather would just lighten up a tad . . . OGD

Hello I noticed on the Nantahala campground look up table http://forestcamping.com/dow/southern/nant.htmThat you list 'no' for waste station when in fact the CG does have a waste station. Just thought you might want an update. Thank you for the wealth of information you provide!

OK, but which campground are you talking about? Seven are listed, one of which, Jackrabbit Mt., displays "Yes" for RV Waste. Is it possible you are thinking about waste stations for household trash? Perhaps I am misunderstanding.

Yes it would help if I gave you the name of the campground! The campground is Standing Indian and it does have a RV dump station. Your review of the campground states that fact, but the chart says it does not have one. That was my first post and I was trying to be so careful and I still left out the most important fact, the name of the campground!!

Thanks to links on your site, my wife Cindy and I will be spending at least a portion of the winter in the Tonto National Forest as volunteer campground hosts. We'll certainly pass along any beta we get on conditions and changes. One detail I know is that many of the recreation area campgrounds will NOT be open this winter, such as Tortilla Flats, the CG to which we originally applied. The only two that ARE open will be Coon Bluff (our spot) and the Phon D Sutton Campground and Rec Area, just a mile or so down the road towards Mesa, AZ. Thanks for keeping up the site and for listing the openings. This is truly one of the few functional reference sites I've found in a year or so of research.
