I'm planning a cross country trip in a few weeks. I'll be starting in Miami and traveling to Sacramento. I'd like to do as much camping as I can going across. I'm flexible about the route but I really like the Ozarks and would like to drive through Arkansas and Missouri, After that, I have family in Denver and will be stopping there. I'm guessing Wyoming or Utah would be the next camp site and then through Nevada and on through to California. If, after that, I'm up for it, I might try camping near Placerville, CA. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks, Joel

I would suggest a stop at Blanchard Springs campground in the Ozark NF. Beautiful and interesting. Check out the living cave, maybe take a tour. Not sure about Missouri - that Mark Twain NF is all over the place. Your family is probably a good source for camping around Denver but I would suggest taking Us 40 across Colorado than visiting Flaming Gorge NRA (Ashley NF), Firefighter Memorial cg was pretty nice but there are several alternatives. I thought Spirit Lake cg was special. Tahoe NF is loaded with great cgs - take a look at Indian Springs and Hampshire Rocks cgs.
I think your problem will be narrowing down your choices. Have you stayed in the Ocala or Osceola NF in FL? Really liked Ocean Pond cg in Osceola NF. And the number of national forests that could be along you way between Osceola and Ozark is amazing.
What a great problem to have and what great trip you'll have. Click on one of the icons upper left of this page for national forest/grassland campground descriptions. Happy camping.
