Geocaching is like a game of hide and seek. It is divided into two categories - "treasure" hunting and "virtual" discovery. What both categories have in common is the use of GPS coordinates to find a treasure or location. Also common to both is providing minimal information so as to encourage use of the GPS coordinates.
Virtual Geocaching is the category embraced by this forum.Treasure hunting is finding a hidden container with a logbook and maybe an inexpensive trinket that can be traded. This category is the least favored by the Forest Service because of the trash potential.
Virtual Geocaching is finding a location with a great view or overlook, an outstanding interpretive trail, a great fishing or swimming hole, wildlife viewing, a dispersed campsite and on and on.
