My family went camping at lemon, as they do every year, and were harrassed nightly by the campground supervisor before being kicked out this morning. The first night, friends from durango came up and played poker by the fire. They were obviously laughing and having fun, but this is no group of drunken partiers. It was five men, three of which are in their sixties, one of which is a retired durango police officer. The camp director "richard", complained about them being loud. So the next night, they were careful to be very quiet, still he complained. Last night, they turned off their generator and radio very early. Richard came down this morning and said there was a complaint from a woman about a loud generator and loud music........but these devices were off AND THERE WERE NO OTHER CAMPERS IN THE CAMPGROUND!!!!!!! Either he wanted that space for some arriving friends or the guy is just a jerk and doesnt want anyone there for some reason. Needless to say, my family traveled there all the way from tucson arizona and the vacation was ruined. One bright spot is that I spoke with a very helpful person from san juan national forest service who put me in touch with the person in charge and offered to send me an incident report. I hope this guy gets fired and our money can be refunded from his paycheck.

Good luck with that. The guy was most likely a volunteer (read, no paycheck). Even if he was a paid employee, don't hold your breath waiting for a refund.

FS campgrounds in Colorado often run by concessionaire but in any case *do* send in that incident report. One person may not make a change but if there are more somebody will take note. Try this too http://www.fs.fed.us/contactus/ as I think it goes directly to Headquarters. Suzi

I realise this post is old, but for people reading this in the future I'd like to make a few valid points.
Alot of campgrounds have "quiet hours" usually 10 pm to 6 am. This rule is there for the consideration of all campers. Every camper in a campground pays the same fee, and should deserve the same consideration. Please always read the campground regulations before paying for your stay, it will only benefit you and everyone around you.
If in your instance it wasnt during these hours or there werent "quiet hours" posted on the campground regulation board then obviously this doesnt apply to your situation.
If however quiet times were posted on the regulation board, and you were having these activities during these times, then it is not the Hosts fault that he had to remind you of the rules, he was merely doing his job, and being fair to the other paid campers.
Being a host myself, I know how just one person complaining about noise is an issue, and must be dealt with or it could mean your job. This is a touchy area, as the person complaining of the noise, if not satisfied of the hosts ability to appease them can result in them complaining to their superior. On the other hand, you being offended at having your good time being ruined by having the host ask you to obey quiet times can result in exactly the same way, so who do they make happy?
The answer is obvious, if you were breaking the rules I sincerely hope the Host did not loose his position due to your complaint. If you were following the rules, I hope the host did not loose his job due to the other parties complaint. Now you can see the delimma. Sometimes we fail to see all sides in a story.
The bottom line is to always read the regulation board in any new campground you attend before paying. Follow these rules, and always extend some courtesy to your fellow campers, they paid just the same as you and deserve some respect. Yes I know all too well that some people can never be appeased no matter what, but thats a fact of life we all live with every day.
