Noting Suzi's Newsletter comment about increase in campground reservation fees; unless this went into effect yesterday, it apparently is not universal. I made several reservations on Monday and paid $9 per reservation. These were through Recreation. gov so there must be some variations to the charges. Mine were for campgrounds new to the system, so it was not a case of old contracts. Regardless, $9 is bad enough but it really irks me that I had to pay $27 for 3 reservations, made at the same time, for campsites in the same NF, with the same concessionaire.

These people are taking a lot of the fun out of camping!

Maybe they are getting lessons from a well know ticket venue company! I don't mind paying a "handling" fee, but to get charged for each reservation during the same session is weak!
:(

You are pretty close to correct. As I understand it, Recreation.gov is part of Ticketron, located in Canada! I think, 50% of the reservation fee goes to them, 40% to Forest Service of administration cost at Headquarters, and 10% goes into a pool that is used for Grants the forests compete over. At least that is what I heard.

The $10 charge is noted on recreation.gov's website. Hey, you saved 10% - maybe it was a Holiday sale?
:D

I just checked recreation.gov site, it says $9.00, the only $10 I saw, was a Service Charge for Changing, or Canceling a reservation.

bukhrn is correct. Silly me - I assumed (and we all know what that makes) if the Service Charge to cancel is $10 than the Reservation Charge must be $10. But NOOOO, these guys want to make more from your cancelling.

I really try my best to NEVER have to cancel a reservation, but we can't always get what we want, & certain occasions arise which we have no control over, & while it saddens me deeply to have to cancel a reservation, & I don't like paying the $10 fee to cancel, it isn't that , that upsets me, it's the fact that I realize that I won't be camping.
