A number of people and organizations want to change or repeal the legislation authorizing fees charged by the Forest Service and other federal organizations listed below. The purpose of this forum category is: (1) provide a platform establishing the issues, discussing and debating them; and (2) through whatever means, present the results to the Administration and Congress.
One group seriously discussing the legislation was recently formed called the Post-FLREA Recreation Fees Working Group. Its first telephonic meeting was held on December 30, 2010 - see report summarizing the meeting below. Derrick Crandall, President of the American Recreation Coalition (
http://www.funoutdoors.com/), started the Group. Its mission, not yet finalized, is to:
“Provide a forum for individuals and organizations interested in developing suggestions for the Congress and Administration to improve or repeal the current fee authority provided by FLREA to the five agencies described in the Legislation topic.”
We hope all of you in the national forest community will join the discussions where issues can be identified and perhaps a consensus on some or all will evolve to either push for change or let the legislation stand.
