Hello everyone!

We are planning our first camping/fishing trip to June Lake, Ca in May. Any suggestions on a good campground? We would love to camp next to the lake if possible, however since we have never been there, we have no idea where or if there are any good spots. Thanks
:)

I assume you are talking about June Lake in the Inyo National Forest. Correct?

Oh Ridge! campground is the largest and probably most well-known in the area. Well-suited to RV but IMHO tent campers will find June Lake and Gull Lake more to their taste since they have smaller parking aprons and fewer large motorhomes. Check for more details about these campgrounds, as well as, Reversed Creek and Silver Lake campground, at the Inyon NF pages (http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/pacficsw/inyo.htm).

I would suggest, since this is your first time, making a day trip of driving the whole State Route 158 and check out the sights and other campgrounds. Also you may want to consider a visit to Mono Lake. (Ask about the children's programs at Visit Center.) I think it is an amazing feature of the area. You aren't that far from the backside of Yosemite National Park and the drive up State Route 120 (Vining Canyon Scenic Byway) is breath-taking. So much to do with so little time to do it

FYI - Often the recreation.gov site will have a map of campground's reservable site so you can select and reserve a campsite where you want to be, like a lakeside site or not (we provide the link from the campground's description
:)
.

Happy camping.

I just so happen to have lived in June Lake, CA for the last 15 years. May can be a beautiful month but be warned, it can snow. The Tioga Pass hwy 120, is rarely open (the road to Yosemite) in May from the west to eastern side of the Sierras. I don't know which way you're coming from. There is lake camping next to Gull Lake and Silver Lake. June Lake's campgrounds are above the lake and it does get windy there. It also has a swimming beach but in May the lake will no doubt be COLD. This is the only campground that has a dump station. There is another campground on June Lake that is off of the 158 as you're coming into the Village. Silver Lake campground is right next to the lake and also Rush creek. If you like fishing, Silver and Gull would be a great CG. There are other campgrounds and rv parks in the loop. Grant Lake has good fishing but can be extremely windy. There is a campground there and Marina. Lots of hiking trails and horseback riding if the moods strikes. Be prepared to dress in layers as the mornings and nights will be cold. Here's a link to the Natl. forest website for Inyo Natl. Forest. Have Fun!! http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/recreation ... unds.shtml
