North of Banff along Minnewanka Road

A full week was spent exploring the area northeast of Banff. In this area are the huge Lake Minnewanka and the much smaller Johnson Lake. Their sizes were different but each had a wonderful sense of peace and quiet. At the time of our visit, the surface of both lakes was almost as flat as a mirror and the wildflowers provided patches of carnival colors. Johnson Lake was full while Lake Minnewanka's water level appeared low. We were told the level would rise as the winter's snowpack melts. During our walk around Johnson Lake we enjoyed the calls of two adult loons and watching the antics of their small brood of chicks. It was another good day.
