17timberline_lodge.jpg The magnificent and historic Timberline Lodge is located on the south side of Mt Hood between Government Camp, OR and Palmer glacier. This picture taken from the lodge of Palmer glacier, provides skiiers a chance to ski year round. The massive outcropping just below the mountain's crest is a remnant dome called Crater Rock. It is some 560 feet tall and was produced by an eruption some 200 or 300 years ago. However, the most recent eruption was 180 to 250 years ago. Each winter, Mt Hood's rugged surface is hidden under a deep blanket of snow. Come summer the "real" Mt Hood reappears. As seasons change and the lighting shifts, Mt Hood presents another image. Whether seen from near or far, Mt Hood is always changing but is forever the same.
