Happy 4th of July
Yippeee!!! Finished researching the White Mountain NF and heading for Green Mountain NF. We are back in the land of modern communication! After about a week without, it does feel good to be able to download email, work on our website/blog/forum/etc without having to drive half-an-hour, and do all that other internet dependent stuff. And than there is the wonder of electricity 24/7 and hot showers!!! I love camping but those modern conveniences are wonderful.
What is also wonderful are our plans for today. We are in West Fairlee, VT, near Lanakila camp Fred were was a counselor at back in his college days. Where, you could say, the foundation for our project was laid. And we have been invited to join in this year’s July 4th celebrations. Sounds like good fun and I hope to have some photos of it for next week.
Fred and I have had the good fortune celebrating July 4th on the Mall in Washington, DC and in a number of small towns across the country. Hands down, small town celebrations are the best, IMHO and that’s what today’s will be all about. First a parade in Fairlee, VT and later dinner and sing-along at the Camp. In between will be some plain old Camp activities and fun.
Let’s face it, mega dollar firework displays are impressive but the glow of embers in a campfire, surrounded by family and/or friends, is pretty great. Here’s hoping your holiday is safe and filled with good times and great memories.
